Frequently Asked Questions

On this page you can find quick and easy steps to book your screening of In Utero as well as frequently asked questions that will help make your event a success!

  • WHAT ARE THE STEPS FOR BOOKING A SCREENING OF IN UTERO?

We've outlined some practical steps for how to host a screening in our Event Guide. Feel free to download it and let us know if you have any additional thoughts or questions. A copy of the Event Guide comes with all screening license purchases as well.
  • HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HOST A COMMUNITY SCREENING?

The screening licensing fees range in price depending on your type of event and starting at $39 plus shipping. Organizations screening the film are responsible for any costs associated with the local screening venue. See all license options here.

Below, you can learn more about how to defray the cost of hosting a screening.
  • CAN I PREVIEW THE FILM BEFORE PURCHASING A LICENSE?

If you're interested in organizing a community event, but would like to see In Utero in full before moving forward, we would be happy to share a digital screener with you. Please email Simona Boneva, [email protected] for a private screening link.
  • WHAT DOES THE SCREENING LICENSE INCLUDE?

The screening license includes the one-time use of the In Utero DVD and our Screening Kit (an event planning guide, discussion guide, and promotional materials). Educational Licenses include the right to add the DVD to the library for circulation. The Research License also includes a pre-recorded introduction or post-screening answer from the filmmakers. Each license has its terms outlined on the purchase page.
  • WHAT IF I WANT TO HOST MORE THAN ONE SCREENING?

If you would like to host multiple screenings in your community, you will need to purchase a license for each screening. If you already have a license but would like to organize a larger event, just get in touch and we will upgrade your license.

Educational Licenses are an exception to this policy. Educational Licenses cover as many free in-library screenings as you like and also allow the library to add the copy to their collection to loan out. For any questions regarding multiple screenings please feel to contact Simona at [email protected]
  • HOW CAN I DEFRAY THE COST OF HOSTING A SCREENING?

All of our licenses include the right for you to charge admission and/or accept donations at your event. We want this to be a sustainable endeavor for all! If you ask for just $5 from everyone in the room (the price of a cup of coffee!), you'll be on your way to recouping your costs. We suggest organizations use the screening as a fundraiser to help launch innovation in their communities and local initiatives. Partnering with other local organizations or groups can also help cover the costs while simultaneously creating and sustaining community around the film and the important topics that it covers.
  • CAN THE FILMMAKERS COME TO OUR SCREENING?

Due to demand, those involved in the film are not able to attend every screening; however, if you are able to cover speaker fees and travel costs, please contact us at [email protected] to discuss options. We also offer virtual appearances of both our filmmakers and many of the experts featured in the film or.
  • CAN I PURCHASE A COPY OF THE FILM WITHOUT PURCHASING A LICENSE?

The film is not yet available for individual purchase -- our aim with this project is to bring communities together in reflection and discussion. We do have a Home Screening license, however, which is intended for smaller gatherings of friends and family. To stay updated about future opportunities for individual purchase or when the film will be screened in your local area, sign up for our mailing list.
  • WHY SHOULD I REGISTER MY EVENT ON YOUR WEBSITE?

Registering your event is a wonderful sign of how In Utero is making its way into the world! By registering your event on our website, you help us keep track of how well the film is doing. If you are hosting a public screening, this feature also helps ensure that we give your event the attention it deserves in terms of publicity and promotion as the big day approaches. This feature is also extremely beneficial to you as a host because it allows you to invite friends and family to the event and track RSVP’s.

If you are hosting a private screening, we would still appreciate it if you could book the event with us. Simply mark it as "unlisted" or "private" to keep it from appearing publicly on our website.
  • CAN I HOST A SCREENING OUTSIDE OF THE US?

Yes, absolutely! Our DVDs are formatted for all regions and available with subtitles in 11 languages: English, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, Dutch, German, Polish, Russian, Romanian, Slovenian, and Hungarian. Let us know if you need a subtitled version for your audience!
